Nordlet for small businesses
Send invoices, record supplier bills, match bank payments and prepare tax filings for a small company in one place.
A small business has a few recurring jobs: send invoices, pay bills, check who has paid, and give the tax office its returns on time.
Nordlet is accounting software that does these jobs in one place. You work in the web app, and every action is also available through an API if you later connect your own software.
Nordlet keeps your books with double-entry bookkeeping: every amount is written twice, once where it comes from and once where it goes, so the books always balance. You do not have to write these entries yourself. Issuing an invoice or matching a payment writes them for you.
What Nordlet does
- Creates invoices, proforma invoices, advance invoices and credit notes. A credit note is a document that cancels all or part of an invoice.
- Gives each invoice the next number in its series when you press Issue, with no gaps.
- Writes the accounting entry for the sale and the VAT at the same moment. VAT is the tax added to the price that you collect and pass on to the state.
- Sends the invoice by e-mail as a PDF. You can add a "Pay now" link that opens your own payment page with the unpaid amount filled in.
- Sends overdue reminders. Turn on the automatic reminder on a customer's card, and Nordlet e-mails the customer a list of unpaid overdue invoices, at most once every seven days.
- Repeats invoices on a schedule, for example a monthly fee.
Bills and bank payments
- Register the invoices your suppliers send you. Each line goes to an expense account that you or the item card choose.
- Forward supplier invoices to your company's own e-mail address in Nordlet. The attachments land on the capture page, where Nordlet can read them for you.
- Import bank statements as camt.053 or MT940 files, import Stripe exports, or connect your bank directly through open banking. The bank imports guide and the bank connections guide show each way.
- Match each payment to its invoice. Nordlet suggests matches by the invoice number or order reference in the payment details. This is called bank reconciliation: checking that the bank and the books show the same money.
Tax filings and reports
- Nordlet keeps a calendar of filing deadlines for your country.
- For each filing, Nordlet either sends it to the tax office, builds a file for you to upload, or shows the figures for you to type in. Which one depends on the country and the filing. The filing support table lists every case.
- Reports include the trial balance, financial statements, a debt aging list (who owes you money and for how long), a VAT summary and a cash flow report.
- Every list in the app can be filtered and exported to Excel.
Moving from another program
If you already keep books elsewhere, the migration guide explains how to bring over partners, items, opening balances and documents. The import checks everything first and stores nothing if one row fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know accounting to use Nordlet?
You need to know your sales, bills and payments. Nordlet writes the accounting entries when you issue an invoice, register a bill or match a payment. An accountant can join your company in Nordlet with their own login and role.
Can more than one person work in the same company?
Yes. You invite people by e-mail and give each one a role, such as accountant, manager or viewer. The team roles guide shows what each role can see and change.
Does Nordlet send my VAT return?
It depends on your country. For some returns Nordlet sends the file itself, for others it builds a file you upload, and for a few it shows the figures you type into the tax office's portal. See the filing support table.
