E-invoicing with Peppol

Send invoices and credit notes over Peppol from Nordlet, follow their delivery, and turn the e-invoices you receive into purchase invoices.

An e-invoice is an invoice sent as structured data that software can read, not as a PDF that a person has to read. The buyer's system can take in the supplier, the lines and the VAT without anyone typing them.

Peppol is the European network for sending these e-invoices between businesses and public bodies. Each business connects through an access point, a provider that sends and receives documents for it. An invoice travels from the sender's access point to the buyer's access point.

Nordlet builds Peppol invoices and credit notes in the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format. It sends and receives them through your company's own access point account.

What you need

  • An account with one of the access point providers Nordlet works with: Recommand, Storecove or e-invoice.be. Each provider charges for its own service.
  • Your company registered on Peppol through that provider.
  • Your company's VAT number, registration number or Peppol ID in Nordlet, and the same for each customer you send to, on the customer's partner card.

The Peppol guide shows the setup for each provider, step by step.

What Nordlet does

  • Connects to your access point in Account → Compliance → EU → Peppol access point and shows the webhook address for your company.
  • Sends an issued, unpaid invoice or credit note when you click Send via Peppol on the invoice page.
  • Shows the delivery status on the invoice: pending, delivered, rejected or failed, with the reason when the access point gives one.
  • Updates that status by itself when the access point reports a change. With Recommand and e-invoice.be, Check Peppol status also asks for it at once.
  • Lets you send a rejected or failed invoice again after you fix the cause.
  • Downloads the same Peppol file without sending it, with the Peppol XML button.
  • Checks whether a customer is registered on Peppol and which documents it accepts. This check works without an access point.

Without an access point, Nordlet still builds the Peppol file of each issued invoice and credit note for you to download. It does not send or receive anything.

Receiving e-invoices

When a supplier sends you an e-invoice, your access point tells Nordlet, and Nordlet downloads the file.

  • The document appears in Purchases → Document capture, marked as received over Peppol.
  • Nordlet reads the Peppol file itself, so receiving uses no document recognition credits.
  • You check the supplier, the dates and the lines, then click Save draft. Nordlet creates a draft purchase invoice, or a draft purchase credit note, with the original Peppol file attached.
  • You then register it like any other purchase invoice. It becomes part of your accounts payable, the money you owe suppliers.

Nordlet purchase invoice lines cannot be negative. When a received document has amounts that no line can carry, Nordlet saves them as a second document for the same supplier, so the two together match the totals of the original.

For developers

Everything above also works through the API. You can download and send the Peppol file, read the delivery status, look up a receiver and confirm received documents. Nordlet sends webhook events when an invoice is sent, delivered, rejected or fails, and when a document is received. The Peppol guide lists the calls, and API conventions covers errors, idempotency and webhooks.
